Our Story


LaDonna K. Johnson, a specialty chef, is on a mission to "nourish the body and feed the soul " with her Southern-American "Soul Food" and ethnically inspired plant-based cuisine. While Soul Food is synonymous for ingredients that are often high in fat and include unhealthy processed foods that have been linked to the development of chronic diseases, OSKC eliminates these harmful foods and uses fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts, grains, herbs, spices and love to create an unforgettable food experience.


OSKC is passionate about being an environmentally responsible company and believes that eating a plant-based diet is one of the first steps to sustainability. Supporting local farmers and merchants, recycling, composting and using environmentally friendly items are ways in which OSKC has committed to sustaining the community through economics and the world through reducing their carbon footprint. 

" It was important to me to create plant-based dishes using fresh ingredients and eliminating things that have been proven to cause chronic disease without sacrificing the taste or the "soul".  As someone who has lived a vegetarian lifestyle since 2006 (vegan since 2016), I developed a passion for preparing plant-based dishes out of necessity.  I grew up around a family who loved food and later became a self-proclaimed "foodie".  My grandmother cooked Soul food, like no one else, and I would follow her around the kitchen and there developed a passion for cooking.  Her fried pies, chicken and rolls were second to none.  Sammye Gaines, my grandmother, is the inspiration behind what I do and how I do it.  Watching my family develop, suffer and die from chronic diseases changed my mind about food and unleashed my passion that started me on this mission.   I, unfortunately, can not save my family members that are gone but maybe I can save someone else's family member on my mission to change people's perception about plant-based (rich) food."   

OSKC offers ethnic inspired plant-rich cuisine that is delicious, fresh, innovative and yet traditional. We believe that people can enjoy great plant-rich food while supporting the local economy and the environment and we are proud to be a part of this movement.  

Vegan food is soul food in its truest form. Soul food means to feed the soul. And, to me, your soul is your intent. If your intent is pure, you are pure. Erykah Badu

an autodidact speciality chef, has a lifelong passion for growing and preparing food as well as living a plant-rich lifestyle for over 15 years. LaDonna saw a need for good, accessible and diverse plant-rich food and decided to address the problem head on!  Since launching OSKC in November 2016,  she has won accolades for creating a one-of-kind plant-rich, meat alternative called “Chictan”.
